State Child Rights Protection and Adoption Service while implementing the measures for the protection of children’s rights co-ordinates the activities of the Municipal Services of Children’s Rights Protection and provides them methodical assistance on issues of actual implementation of children’s rights protection. Generally, 60 services function in various cities and regions of Lithuania. Municipal Services of Children’s Rights Protection implement the key provisions of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, carry out the protection of children’s rights, protect the rights and legal interests of the child following the procedure provided by the legislation, organizes and supervises the guardianship/curatorship of children deprived of parental care within the municipal territory.
State Child Rights Protection and Adoption Service collects statistical information about children from Municipal Services of Children’s Rights Protection and from public authorities and institutions, organizes, analyses and summarizes it, also organizes the improvement of professional skills in respect of children’s rights protection for specialists from Municipal Services of Children’s Rights Protection.
The State Child Rights Protection and Adoption Service also co-ordinates the activities of the Municipal Services of Children's Rights Protection in the sphere of adoption and co-operates with such services when resolving various issues related to adoption of children. The Municipal Services of Children's Rights Protection collect data about children eligible for adoption and propose them in statutory procedure to the State Child Rights Protection and Adoption Service. The State Child Rights Protection and Adoption Service constantly keeps counseling with the employees of such services when resolving issues regarding the adoption of children with special needs as well as the adoption of children for foreign citizens. |
